Being Present and Breaking Patterns
December 15, 2008
How do you be fully present now? I was thinking about this last night and it really took a lot for me to understand. I had been reading about it for months and months and months. And listening to CD’s and trying to understand what they say about not beating the drum of our past for we are sure to repeat it. I mean I understand that but I think I’ve finally been given the insight into seeing where I go goof up on doing that and how I can go about changing the pattern.
That’s what this is about, breaking our patterns. A pattern is something that we just keep on repeating and the cycle is never ending and it just keeps on going in exactly the same way with never any different type of outcome. How amazingly clear that has become to me today. I know what my patterns are and now it’s time to conquer them. We as humans keep perpetuating our patterns and dragging them forward with us from the past. That is where they should die. The past is the past and you can’t change it and we shouldn’t dwell on it. I more importantly should not dwell on it.
Our brains develop thought patterns that we find ourselves constantly listening to and thinking over and over until we believe them. A belief is an ingrained thought pattern, whether good or bad. This is why it’s important to learn how to change the negative and damaging thought patterns in our minds. So many patterns and so many negative beliefs are being challenged today. And yet I see as soon as my body gets tired how quickly my negative thought patterns are ready to rear their ugly little heads lol.
The first sign of weakness whether it be physical, emotional, or mental, the ego starts to take hold of you again and starts drumming those beliefs into your head that it feeds on so that it can stay in control of your life and keep you crippled. Often you will find that it gets stronger at the first sign of any good feeling thoughts you have of yourself. What you really have to learn to do is to feed the ego the good thoughts and let it take those as fuel because you cannot destroy the ego. It’s something that is always within us. This is where positive affirmations come in to play. The more you can feed your ego these thoughts the more you will start to believe them and they will become ingrained beliefs about yourself.
So even if you don’t believe them in the beginning, eventually they will wear on you and it will become second nature. It’s all about repetition and teaching your brain a new thought pattern about yourself or something else.
Pattern: a reliable sample of traits, acts, tendencies, or other observable characteristics of a person, group, or institution.
